George R. Bucher – Sculptor, Entertainer, Educator

Bucher graduated from The Barnes Foundation, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He was a full time art professor at Susquehanna University having a deep desire for teaching. Bucher taught art history for nearly 3 decades at various establishments.

George is a very accomplished young man. He is honest, direct, and sincere in his relations with others, and has a pleasant personality. He has an amazingly creative mind, and is a dynamo of energy. Not only is he extremely productive, in his own right, but he is an excellent guide for others, students and colleagues, quietly helping them with suggestions to stimulate their own creative abilities. He has a delightful wife, who also has an attractive personality, and together they make a splendid team. In some twenty years of teaching, I have only met one other student who had the inventive ability, creativity, and tremendous artistic output that George has; and, of the two, George had a keener imagination, a wider range of techniques, and more drive to carry through his ideas, rather than merely talking about them. It should be a privilege for any student to work with him as a teacher and adviser. His teaching positions since he left this University have shown his high-capacity, and his continual artistic output shows no signs of diminishing. he has already gone far, but I am sure that he will rise to still greater heights of achievement. He is highly articulate, and his ideas on many subjects, even outside his immediate field, are well worth listening to. In short, he has more than a touch of genius.
